Today, OpenAI announced the the new GPT-4o multi-modal model that integrates text, video, and audio capabilities. This new GPT-4o version raises the standard for generative and conversational AI. This new version has some really amazing AI features, like real-time speech translation, and conversational interaction capabilities with vision and audio support. While OpenAI is releasing the new GPT-4o to their own ChatGPT service over the next couple weeks, if you’re using the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, you can start using GPT-4o today!
GPT-4o Available in Azure OpenAI Service Now
Microsoft has announced the new OpenAI GPT-4o multimodal model is available within Azure OpenAI Service now! If you’re already using Azure OpenAI, you can go into the Azure OpenAI Studio and create a new deployment of GPT-4o starting today.
GPT-4o is an amazing step forward in the advancement of generative AI, as this model version is a multi-modal model. This means it support multiple modes of interaction for a richer, more engaging experience. GPT-4o is able to seamlessly combine text, images, and audio in a single interactive experience.
GPT-4o in Azure OpenAI Early Access Playground – Microsoft is currently limiting access to existing customers to test out GPT-4o as they roll it out in the early preview. GPT-4o is only available in the “West US3” and “East US” Microsoft Azure regions, and it’s limited to 10 requests every 5 minutes. The initial release focuses on text and vision inputs since it’s just an initial preview. Also, with GPT-4o currently in a preview model state, it’s not available for deployment/direct API access.
More Efficient and Cost-effective
OpenAI engineered GPT-4o for speed and efficiency. This means it’s more efficient that previous GPT-4 models. This will translate into a cost savings and performance improvements when hosting the model within Azure OpenAI Service.
GPT-4o Use Cases within Azure
I’m sure you’re eager to see it, and Microsoft is eager to show it off, so we’ll likely see much more about Azure OpenAI Service and GPT-4o at Microsoft Build 2024 next week. But in the mean time, here are some possiblities of business cases where GPT-4o might be useful:
- Enhanced customer service – GPT-4o could enable more dynamic and comprehensive customer support interactions by integrating multimodal data inputs.
- Advanced analytics – GPT-4o capabilities to process and analyze different types of data could be used to enhance decision-making and uncover deeper insights.
- Content innovation – The generative AI capabilities of GPT-4o could be used to create engaging and diverse content formats that cater to a broad range of consumer preferences.
As it’s been exciting to see how companies and individuals have been adopting and using previous models of OpenAI GPT, it’ll be just as exciting to see what comes with the adoption of this new GPT-4o model too!
