HashiCorp is now officially part of IBM following their completed acquisition which started almost a year ago. This marks a transformative milestone for the HashiCorp and Terraform communities, promising to usher in a new era of innovation and enterprise-grade cloud solutions with HashiCorp joining the IBM family.

Founded over a decade ago by Mitchell Hashimoto and Armon Dadgar, HashiCorp emerged from a vision to revolutionize cloud infrastructure by enabling automated, infrastructure-as-code practices. Its flagship products—Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, Vault for secure secrets management, and Vagrant for development automation—have reshaped how organizations build, deploy, and manage cloud applications.

“Hybrid and multi-cloud are the clear realities for today’s enterprises,” said Armon Dadgar, reflecting on the evolution of cloud computing. With the rise of GenAI and the continued demand for scalable, secure digital infrastructure, HashiCorp’s mission to “enable innovation” is more relevant than ever.

“Hybrid and multi-cloud is the clear reality for large enterprises, and with the rise of GenAI, we expect an entirely new generation of applications to emerge.” – Armon Dadgar, Co-Founder and CTO of HashiCorp

The union with IBM promises expanded reach and enhanced research and development capabilities. By leveraging IBM’s global scale and R&D resources, HashiCorp is set to deepen product integrations. For instance, plans include combining Terraform with configuration tools like Ansible and integrating Vault with platforms such as OpenShift and Guardium. These partnerships aim to streamline infrastructure automation, boost cost management with native FinOps capabilities, and simplify the deployment of secure, multi-cloud environments.

HashiCorp’s deep-rooted community of hundreds of thousands of practitioners has been a driving force behind its success. The acquisition not only reaffirms the trust placed in HashiCorp by its nearly 5,000 commercial customers but also sets the stage for accelerated growth as the company embarks on its next chapter as a division of IBM Software.

As the industry continues its rapid evolution, the newly integrated company is poised to address emerging challenges in cloud infrastructure, helping organizations worldwide innovate faster, safer, and at scale.
